Steve at White Barnes helped us to choose fabulous floorings for our hall, stairs, landing and bedrooms. We went for a lovely herringbone Ted Todd floor downstairs and hardwearing but neutral carpets throughout the upstairs. Very accommodating with our constantly changing schedule! Steve and his team provided a fantastic service, competitive price and excellent workmanship in fitting stair carpets across four floors and multiple landings in our old, quirky house, and fitting three bedroom carpets. They needed to repair numerous floorboards butchered by previous tenants' plumbers, re-level uneven floors, remove squeaks, deal with poor tiling intersections with bathrooms and carpet some very tricky stair/landing connections using a striped carpet. Steve provided great advice on the best carpet products to use, sourced a hard to find solution and kept us up to date with frequent communications when his suppliers kept moving the delivery date. Any issues were resolved quickly and helpfully. His team was polite, cheery, worked hard, cleaned up after themselves and did a tremendous job. We highly recommend White Barnes if you want a professional job by professional tradespeople who charge a fair price for their skills and expertise.
Overall I had a great experience getting a new engineered wood floor and underfloor heating put in. Emma at the Burpham showroom was really helpful in giving me initial information and indicative costs, as well as providing samples, and Steven was very helpful in providing a quote and help with finalising my flooring choice. Emma also helped find a slot for the work that fitted within my move-in schedule.
There was a mistake made at the start of the installation of the flooring as well as some confusion about instructions, which unfortunately added a couple of days to the timetable, but there was no fuss from Steven or from Ian (the carpenter) about putting right the mistake, and Ian did a brilliantly professional job of fixing problems with the existing subflooring, levelling it and then installing the new floor and underfloor heating, including cutting it to fit snugly around the pipes in the kitchen area, and also extended the flooring into the cupboard under the stairs (unasked) to make up for the initial mistake.
The quality of the flooring and its installation absolutely exceeded my expectations, and you can tell by walking on it that it is rock solid and built to last, compared to the very creaky and uneven floor it replaced. Ian was also very careful and thoughtful, doing a great job of leaving the place spotlessly clean once he was done and going the extra mile to make sure that the little things were done right, like putting painting tape underneath the skirting boards so that they were ready to paint and asking if I wanted him to leave cardboard boxes behind so I could use them as a floor protector for when the kitchen fitters came in.
Excellent experience with Steve - great price, range of carpets and flooring. He allowed us to take samples home even large flooring ones to help us decide as a family. Great service all round, would highly recommend A+
We have used White Barnes Madrid Road Guildford three times now, twice at home for Amtico flooring over various poor surfaces at home. And now May 2020 for installation of specialist vinyl floor at village Hall, over uneven poorly floor tiles. Competitive pricing, great floor preparation and fitting team, good service and communication. Minor problems were resolved quickly, well and in a friendly professional manner by Steve White and his team. Thoroughly recommended.
